An event loop is a management checklist to run through periodically — every day, week and month. “The objective is to ensure you’re making time for the important activities that can get lost in the noise. The weekly and monthly ones are particularly tough because you cycle through less frequently, but they’re as important to make a habit.” Here’s an example of an event loop for an engineering manager:

To be effective with an event loop, block time on your calendar to revisit and answer each set of questions according to their designated frequency. If you need to reschedule or delay it, that’s okay — at least it’ll be a conscious choice and give you opportunities to re-prioritize, if necessary.
