Enhance Managers’ Ability to Commit Deeply to Projects

In 1984, Michael Hilti, then CEO and now Chairman of the Supervisory Board, launched an initiative designed to enhance his managers’ ability to commit deeply to projects. “I want our managers to take responsibility for what they do”, he said. “One of the central conditions for this is that they love what they do. The second is that they are aware that they have choices. The third is that they commit without reservation.” Every Hilti manager went through a three-day process to learn and practice four aspects of the new focus: the break with old habits, the freedom to choose (“love it, change it, or leave it”), the swing of life (“when you take initiative, expect both positive experiences and setbacks”), and Cotoyo (“commit to yourself – when you say yes to something, take responsibility for what you promised yourself”).
